We took a drive to Grand Canyon where a huge forest fire is going on the North Rim. The wind has blown from the southwest for a month and made the fire the largest active fire in United States. The Wide angle camera gives a good overview.
When using the telephoto lens is details very clear even the fire is more than 10 miles away.
The old lodge burned when the fire got out of control. The wall are still standing but not much else.
This is a cropped picture of the lodge from the telescope picture above.
Just as a comparison in the best my Samsung S25 Ultra can do of zooming on the North Rim Lodge from the same spot. Still amazing for a phone you carry in your pocket, but not even close in details. As they say "The best camera is the one you have with you" :-). Even the telescope is very portable is the setup at least a minute or more and you need a stable place for the tripod, the phone out of pocket zoom and picture in 5 seconds.
The telescope can also pull other details close, like the rubber raft on the Colorado River. This is 5000 feet below and 3-4 miles away.
Video is also an option like this panning video from the rafts to the north rim lodge. Video has been slightly edited with DaVinci Resolve by removing a few stops in the panning and to zoom on the North Rim Lodge on a still photo at the end. Could use a lot more smooth transitions 🙂
The Wide angle camera also have very good color reproduction.
And the detail from the telephoto is amazing.
This is the Haynes Rapids one of the hardest on the Colorado river.
This is a picture with details more than 15 miles away, can you spot the rafts?
And here is a wide angle view.
With a telephoto of a detailed temple.
This telescope is for sure being packed on any future trip.
